Left Edge - Cloud Organ
The Cloud Organ is part musical instrument and part contemporary sculpture, exploring the relationship of sound in a space. Six suspended sculptures play a tuned set of 74 pipes through a robotically controlled pneumatic system. Created through a team-based design process, the project was developed by students of the Art and Technology Methods class in conjunction with faculty member David Bithell. The bodies of the sculptures were designed with 3D modeling programs and fabricated through a variety of tools, from woodworking to 3D printing. Left Edge Collaborative Studio, led by SOU faculty member David Bithell, is comprised of students from both the Studio Art and Emerging Media and Digital Arts (EMDA) programs. Utilizing a wide range of skills including 3D modeling, fabrication, social media, documentation, coding, robotics, and music composition, this team of artists develops large-scale projects in interdisciplinary arts and technology. ***** As Production Manager, I oversaw the integration of each team into a full cohesive product.
